Design for the Real World | Exhibition

In 1972, at a time of rampant consumerism, Victor Papanek made a powerful case for the importance of inclusive and sustainable design in meeting the real needs of people. To mark the 40th anniversary of his seminal book “Design for the Real World” the Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design explored both aspects of Papanek’s legacy. The show presented 15 projects showcasing inclusive and human-centred design.

My Role | Exhibition Designer

Working in partnership with graphic designer Lottie Crumbleholme, I designed an exhibition system and interior layout to cater for a diverse set of projects that displayed research and outcomes through print, object and moving image. In keeping with Papanek’s philosophy the design was constructed using waste materials to fabricate plinths, reused materials to erect exhibition walls and recyclable, locally printed cardboard for graphic displays.
